My condolences to the people of Arizona

I've only just heard about the shooting involving the US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, in which a number of people have been killed. I'm shocked and saddened.

You Americans have too many guns! The more guns that are owned by private citizens, the less safe everyone is. I hope that one day my friends in the US will have a leader who is able to take decisive action to reduce gun ownership, as was done in Australia in the 1996, in response to a massacre in Tasmania.

  1. We'll probably find out that the guy who did it is a Tea Party follower, or a fan of Glenn Beck. I'll be interested in hearing just where he got his inspiration from.

  2. Actually, I heard that the women who was targeted was on a web site run by Sarah Pallin It was called her "hit-list"...perhaps the shooter was very literal minded...(uhoh)....
She reportedly removed the list from her blog but the list is hardly the real issue...not are guns in my opinion . The issue is how some people can be fooled by the "showman ship" that is politics in USA . It's a lot like "professional wrestling"...(also very popular here) . Evidently , there are many humans who enjoy being manipulated into being "out-raged" at some supposed "other/enemy" .I imagine that psychologists would say that it is the human need to project the humans past and current frustrations onto someone other then the original tormentor . All just goes to reafirm my belief that humans are just a genetic experiment that will prove itself a dead end and in much shorter time then the dinosaurs .

I think anger is an emotion that is not handled intelligently and constructively by our society because it is regarded as essentially a bad thing that should be extinguished. This is an absurd idea, probably a hangover from the 1960s.

There actually is an interesting fellow in the US who used to be a politician and before that one of those WWF wrestlers, so I guess there might be overlap between those two spheres.

  4. I have just seen the old video of Ms Giffords complaining about Sarah Palin's map with gunsights on it targeting local politicians, including Giffords. I'm a champion of free speech, but that kind of political rhetoric, which encourages violence in any way, should be illegal. Sarah Palin is a disgrace!
