Lili's next thought for the day

Concerned member of the public - The law has been broken! Do something!

Useless policeman - Where's the evidence?

Concerned member of the public - It's out there waiting for a police officer to find it.

  1. Well, Lili, you are supposed to give some details in yer complaint, such as saying who did what to whom, or to his property. Be specific in your complaint. Your statement is evidence.

Give the poor copper something to work with.

  2. Hey Justthisguy, don't assume that a Mr Plod or a Dickless Tracey here in Australia has the time or the inclination to take a statement from a mere member of the public. They have more important jobs to do, such as taking a speed camera thing to long, straight, unpopulated, well-designed stretches of road, or travelling thousands of kilometers around the country to intimidate political protesters.

  3. Heh. You remind me of the one speeding ticket I have gotten in my entire life (I am older than 60). I was driving from this part of Florida northwards, to the Tampa-Clearwater area, and driving along a long ruler-straight stretch of road which went on for miles and miles, with no slightest possibility of cross traffic, it being on a causeway through a swamp.

There were no cars visible in my mirrors. There were no cars visible ahead, as far as I could see, and yes I do have the sharp autistic senses.

I thought it was safe to exceed the speed limit by a moderate amount, considering the state of my tires, etc.

I was wrong. There was one car on the road ahead of me. It was manned by a Florida State Trooper, over in the bushes, working his Radar gun.

I mind the time, when I was working at the machine shop, when I went to get lunch, and also go to the bank, and still get back to work on time. I did so, and did it by (at least) doubling the speed limits on the streets of the City of Atlanta.

I was perfectly safe from citation or arrest when I did that, but I was not safe from myself, nor were the innocent people on the street safe from me.

Yet, when I drove fast in a perfectly safe place in which to drive fast, I got a ticket!

  5. A cop checking speeds on a causeway thru a swamp? The fool probably got eaten by a crocogator in the end.

I've only had two speeding tickets in all my years of driving. The first on an unpopulated stretch of road on the rare occasion of me giving my Dad a lift, the second time on a perfect piece of road thru a national park with an absurd speed limit.

  6. Back to Eurovision. One thing is certain - the first act won't be winning.

  7. Off topic: I have gotten tired of shaving, recently. It seems that when one gets old, and his beard gets white, the skin is more tender and the beard hairs tougher. So, I decided to let the beard grow for a while. It is just now long enough for my fingers to get a purchase on it and pull on it.

Did you know that a beard makes an excellent stim toy?

  8. I'm not the least surprised. Be warned - if you start pulling hairs that's considered a mental disorder, unless you can justify it in cosmetic grounds.
