Lili's fed up thought for the day

Is it time yet to sort out your horrible firearms problem in the United States? It's a huge issue, but a solution wont happen if you do nothing, again.

Your hostile attitude is showing, Ma'am. We like our firearms just fine here in the USA, and our possession of them is guaranteed by our Constitution.

If you you strip out the urban NAMs from our murder statistics, you'll see that we have a murder rate about the same as the more peaceful countries in Europe.

You will note, if you have any sense, that the latest mass murder happened in a "gun-free zone", where the killer could feel assured that there was nobody present who could shoot back at him.

Would that there had been somebody present there like my High School Latin teacher, who brought a briefcase to school every day.

In that briefcase, she had three things. These were:

1. A brown bag containing her lunch.

2. A manila file folder containing our corrected work.

3. A revolver.

We all felt perfectly comfortable around her, except when she got on us for not studying, not being prepared, etc.

I don't think my attitude is hostile. I think it's very representative of ppl from nations other than the USA.

I couldn't care less what your constitution says about firearms ownership. A constitution can be wrong. Apparently there's some very strange advice to be found in the bible. They are only documents written by imperfect human beings.

I'm familiar with the notion of more guns, not less being a solution to spree shootings. The idea defies common sense. Teachers are teachers, and school principals are trained to be school principals, not Clint Bloody Eastwood. No one goes along to an ordinary day at work expecting to have to take part a shoot-out, unless they are a copper. An attacker will always have the advantage of the element of surprise.

Following the tragic shooting mass murder of the little American kiddies I was presented with an argument that Switzerland has a high rate of gun ownership but low gun crime. What do I see in the news today? A shooting spree mass murder in Switzerland.

Did your teacher's revolver have ammo in it? Was it just a replica kept as a deterrent?

You betcha it was a real one, with ammo in it. This was before 1968 and that silly Gun Control Act. Mrs. Reynolds was a Southern lady, who knew what evil lurked in the hearts of men, being a Classical Scholar.

Oh, a "pretend" gun is worse than useless. It might get you into a gunfight in which you don't actually have a real working gun. Kids have been shot by policemen for brandishing realistic-looking toy guns.

Lili, please read the post at the link below. It compendiously,pre-emptively and thoroughly demolishes all arguments for "Gun Control."

See: http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/an-opinion-on-gun-control/

There are something like 2000 comments on that post, most of which admit the validity of Larry's logic.

Thanks for the reference, but you should know by now that I'm the kind of lady who prefers to look at stats and research than arguments, however compelling they may be.

Larry has stats and research. Read the whole thing. We pro-gun people have facts and reason on our side.

We also have the principle on our side, that the People control the State, not the other way around.

Molon Labe!

P. s. Larry points out in that post that the murder rate in Oz was trending downward before the gun ban, and continued to trend downward at about the same rate after the gun ban. That is, the gun ban made no noticeable difference.

Don't tell me you are ashamed of Ned Kelly! I do wish there had been more than one of him.

Lili Marlene said...

I hate to disappoint you, but I'd reckon Ned Kelly enthusiasts would be a minority here. As far as I know he was just a thief and a murderer. Maybe I'm just not Irish-Catholic enough to understand his appeal.

You are anticipating a People's Revolution armed by gun enthusiasts in the USA? You might be as mad as the teenage spree killer with the staring eyes and a face like Joey Ramone, and his nutbar Mom with the gun collection who was well-prepared for some Armageddon.

Care to argue with this chart?

I won't argue with that chart. I won't even bother to look at it, as it is presented by the Washington Post, a notorious den of liars, and apologists for whomever happens to be in charge of our Government at the moment. There are many private bloggers who are more likely to tell the truth than is the Wapo.
